It was a cool Saturday in March and I had a few errands to run. I finished around noon and decided I would get a few hours of hunting in. I decided to head to a field that I had gotten permission to hunt a few weeks before. When I arrived at the site it was raining, but not very hard. I got out of the car and started meandering across the field. There was a good bit of modern trash scattered about but I kept heading across the field. I walked probably about 300 yards and hit a spot that was sort of trashy but one item I recovered looked to be an old knife or something. The next target really shocked me, as it was a George Washington Inaugural Button!! I had seen pictures and read some stories about them but I never expected to find one, as they are quite rare. It has his initials in script in the middle, encircled by "LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT" and around the outside are the initials of the thirteen colonies. It is called the linked states border, as there are different versions of the button in the Albert's button book it is listed as an R2 which means there are approximately between 51 and 75 known. I found an article published in June of 2000 that states there are between 250 and 300 of ALL varieties combined that are known to exist.
